Rabobank opent per 1 september in Leeuwarden een expertisecentrum tegen financiële criminaliteit. Het nieuwe centrum zal kantoor houden in het bankgebouw met de groene koepel, voorheen de hoofdzetel van de Friesland Bank. Rabobank opent in totaal acht van dergelijke centra in Nederland. Naast Leeuwarden gaat het om Groningen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Elst, Sittard en Hengelo.

Voor Europees Nederland is in 2019-2020 een tweede NRA Terrorismefinanciering uitgevoerd, die als doel heeft om de grootste risico’s op het terrein van terrorismefinanciering in kaart te brengen. De risicoanalyse is opgebouwd aan de hand van de ISO 31000 structuur voor risicomanagement en de daarin wetenschappelijk erkende effectieve methoden voor risicobepaling. Parallel aan de uitvoering van de tweede NRA Terrorismefinanciering is de tweede NRA op het terrein van witwassen uitgevoerd (voor Europees Nederland).

Data Protection requirements must go hand in hand with the prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing. In its Opinion published today, the EDPS reacted to the European Commission’s action plan for a comprehensive Union policy on preventing money laundering and terrorism financing, published on 7 May 2020. The EDPS believes that the Commission should make data protection a golden standard in the context of AML/CFT compliance processes.

On 23 July the 9th Basel AML Index 2020 was published. The average ML/TF risk score across all 141 countries in the 2020 Public Edition of the Basel AML Index remains unacceptably high at 5.22 out of 10, where 10 equals maximum risk. In fact, only six countries improved their scores by more than one point. 35 countries went backwards.

Op 27 juli jl. is de nieuwe versie van de Algemene Leidraad Wwft door het ministerie van Financiën gepubliceerd. Het doel van deze leidraad is om de onder toezicht staande Wwft-instellingen behulpzaam te zijn bij de toepassing van de wettelijke verplichtingen.
