Conference on the Future of Human Rights in Europe: Threats and Challenges

On 25 January 2013, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee will organise a Conference on the Future of Human Rights in Europe. The conference will focus on the following issues: What are the main challenges to human rights in Europe at the moment? Which groups of people are most threatened and how do they react? Do human rights mechanisms in Europe adequately protect freedom and justice? What is the possible impact of the economic crisis and increasing nationalism and xenophobia? Is Eastern Europe turning more and more autocratic?, what is the impact on Europe as a whole? What can active citizens do to foster the protection of human rights?

These questions will be answered and debated at the Conference “The Future of Human Rights in Europe”, organized by the Netherlands Helsinki Committee.  When you attend, you will get the opportunity to be informed, inspired, engaged and  motivated by a large number of specialists on human rights in Europe. Nils Muižnieks, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, will be key note speaker to the Conference. After this plenary session the conference will split up into a variety of workshops, lectures, master classes and film screenings. There will be speakers from academia, the NGO-world and politics. The Conference will be hosted by the Hague University of Applied Sciences (Haagse Hogeschool).
